The success of small bars & cafés in Sydney’s CBD laneways is encouraging other business sectors to become alley cats, according to Ray White Commercial.
Ray White Commercial Office Leasing Director John Skufris said since the inception of the City of Sydney's Laneways Business Development Program in 2008, laneways and small bars have become popular destinations for Sydney workers.
“Venues including Steel Espresso, Grasshopper, Stitch and Shirt Bar have helped transform the city’s social atmosphere and have highlighted the success of the program,” Mr Skufris said.
“Sydney’s growing small bar culture has reinvigorated previously less desirable city streets including Temperance Lane, Wynyard Lane, Sussex Lane and Erskine Street to be thriving social hubs.
“It is encouraging other industries to consider similar locations for their businesses.”
Mr Skufris said the City of Sydney’s Finegrain Business Development Matching Grant Program is further supporting small bars and other diverse businesses in underutilised areas of Sydney's CBD.
He said the latest laneway opportunity was now at Somare Haus at 100 Clarence Street, privately owned by the Arcidiacono family and offered for lease through Ray White Commercial.
“The Lessor owns not only the building, but also the rear laneway inclusive of limited outdoor parking spaces”.
“The basement level retail/office space can be accessed directly from Clarence Street or via the laneway. Other tenants at the building include Vision Personal Training.”
Ray White Commercial's Anthony Harris said: "We are seeing real estate offices and health groups also seek laneway opportunities.
“The ability of seven day trade, signage, and close proximity to clients, customers, public transport and other places of public entertainment are all significant considerations.
