Sydney’s office leasing market is taking off thanks to movements by a number of international airlines and tourism operators, according to Ray White Commercial.
Ray White Commercial Office Leasing Director John Skufris said the Sydney CBD had been experiencing healthy demand from airlines, travel and tourism groups relocating.
Mr Skufris said German national carrier Lufthansa is the latest airline to find new CBD premises.
Lufthansa, which was formerly at 143 Macquarie Street, Sydney, has secured a five year lease for approximately 320 sqm of office space at 189 Kent Street, Sydney, in a deal negotiated by Mr Skufris.
“We understand Lufthansa's Kent Street office may also accommodate business travel payment company Air Plus International,” Mr Skufris said.
“189 Kent Street offers a brand new foyer, near new passenger lifts, sweeping city views, shower facilities and availability of basement parking.”
Ray White Commercial's Anthony Harris said: "Qantas, Air Pacific and
Eva Air have all sought new CBD premises over the past 24 months.
“Qantas moved from Bridge Street retail to office space while Eva Air relocated to the city from Mascot.
“Japan Airlines and Nippon Travel both moved to 22 Market Street in the city earlier this year.
“And we’re expecting Singapore Airlines will also be looking to move in 2012 with a requirement for office space of up to 1,500 sqm.”
Mr Harris said the airlines recognised the convenience of the CBD location.
“Airlines also have less need for a retail presence as so much of their business nowadays is online,” he said.
